Anything you'd like to improve after using Nokia Sportstracker service? After using the service for about 6 months now there are some things that I think needs to be adressed:
- Widgets: (facebook, on blogs etc) to show your weekly/monthly activity log.
- More stats: showing a variety of information weekly, monthly, yearly.
- Seamless workout: Instead of starting and pausing a workout to change walking to running or to cycling, I'd like the opportunity to simply switch between activity modes.
After trying the Nokia Sportstracker service out, is there anything you would like to improve? Share your thoughts.....

Personally I would appreciate the possibility to continue a workout after the phone has crashed etc. Some visual tweaking to the website would not hurt either, and I must admit that I'm a bit worried about the future of the service. Even though there surely are a lot of users out there, Nokia may pull out the plug some day. That's why it should be easier than now to export the training data from the service so that it would not be lost if anything nasty happened...
ReplyDeleteGood point nebel, I have the habit to backup my workouts locally on the phone by copying the workout folder of the Sportstracker application. That's one way to backup your workouts instead of only relying on the server.
ReplyDeleteA Couple of Things. -
ReplyDelete* Give the S60V5 users some love or show them support by adding their devices to the download page for NST.
* Someone really needs to push on Nokia/Polar for Heart Rate Monitor support, or open the api a little to allow a different HRM to sync up. I'm really bummed that I can't get the N79 in the US and feel I only get half the value of NST because I can't find an HRM to go with it.
* There should be a competition mode on the website. Metrics to win the competition should be chosen before hand. EG: 1 point per calorie burned, 3 points per mile, 4 points per minute of Heart Rate at 75% or more. Sprint or top speed points/bonuses could be awarded in the competition. A competition should have an expiration date.
* A goal oriented feature in the NST app would be nice. If I want to work out 3 times a week. NST should send me a text message sometime during the day reminding me of my goal. Or Say I want to burn 2000kCal/week, it should remind me that I'm only 25% of the way there by Thursday.
* The NST application should give encouragement during a workout once the goal has been reached. Also when getting close, EG: I set a goal for 100miles in a day, NST should tell me at 90 miles that I'm almost there. Or if I set a goal to have an average speed of 24Miles/Hr, NST should tell me to push harder when I'm falling below my goal.
* NST on the N97 doesn't recognize the music I play. I don't know if it's because I've just stored the music in a folder on my microsd card, but it's kind of a bummer that I don't see the music of my workout.
* A competition mode should have a paypal interface. People could pool together prize money for a competition.
* A widget on the front screen should have a toggle for metrics. EG: Just display total calories burned/week or month. Or toggle it to display, miles traveled/workout. Average heart rate/minute.
That's all I can think of.
A couple other things (I hit send too early).
ReplyDelete* It would be cool to compare/overlay workouts from other users. To see how altitude/speed/heart rates compared during a workout. Especially if you're working out in a group, or doing the same route at different times.
* A really rough power calculator could be done to figure out the watts needed to climb hills using the weight listed in a user profile. It would be cool to see a rough power output (with an accuracy disclaimer). Even better would be to interface with a power meter.
* I don't know if Polar has done bluetooth Cadence, but if the partnership is there, and the NST guys have a channel to them, it would be really cool to put an HRM, cadence, and power package together.
* Sometimes the graphs for a workout on the website don't have max speed or height listed in the graph. It's on the map, but it would be nicer if it was a little more visible on the graphs.
* Along the top of the map of a workout, there is a bar that says, max speed, max altitude, and a few other metrics of a workout, those should be clickable to highlight that point on the graph and or map.
Some of these ideas in my previous post I sent a to the NST group in betalabs and via the support channel on the NST site but never heard back. It would be awesome to hear a little more about the site and be awesome to even hear, "hey we got your email, we're listening."
* Oh, and maybe call the Nokia marketing department in the US and try to get a sponsorship tie in with a dumb show like "the biggest loser", or an exercise show. A cycling team sponsorship, and/or a booth at cycling events showing off the website would entice some people too. Heck, ATT could sponsor the booth and push the N79 Active as a subsidized phone.
People are begging for info regarding HRM availability for the sportstracker website and I think it would make the site and application really popular. Give us more information about it! There hasn't been a press release in months, is the HRM feature dead? Should I wait another couple months, or just go buy some Garmin/Nike/Adidas heart rate monitor and try to add Heart Rate data manually? Give people a date!
My username on the NST website is fuqqer, I'd love to chat with the devs about the site, because:
* It's already super slick and I want to give compliments.
* NST has a ton of potential for pros/coaches.
Man, you guys should pay me for this stuff, it's ASCII gold.
The Nokia messaging team should take some hints from you guys, the NST product is awesome. Mail for exchange and messaging is pretty much in a terrible state. By the way, the N97 is my first Nokia phone.
Thanks for listening.
